While I don’t have anyone on a gluten-free diet in my immediate family, I have plenty of friends who are gluten-free. Which means it’s always important to offer gluten-free choices when I’m entertaining. Of course, I also like to keep things simple, so rather than serving different choices for everyone, I try to find delicious, gluten-free solutions that everyone will love, like this Sweet & Spicy Mango Avocado Salsa with Breton’s Gluten-Free Crackers.
This salsa is so refreshing! The mango and avocado pair perfectly with jalapeno for a hint of spice and honey for a hint of sweetness. I served it recently with Breton’s new Gluten-Free Black Bean with Onion and Garlic Crackers for a Tex-Mex inspired appetizer that was a big hit with everyone.
All Breton crackers are certified gluten-free by the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness Gluten Free Certification Program. I especially love that the black bean crackers contain two grams of both fiber and protein. They’re also low in saturated fat, contain no artificial colors, flavors, or cholesterol and they are trans-fat free.

My husband and three boys were a little bit reluctant to try a gluten-free cracker, but they were definitely impressed! I really do love having such delicious gluten-free options available for entertaining. Last Thanksgiving we had my friend Sarah over. She’s been gluten-free for most of her life, so until the gluten-free diet became popular, there weren’t always a lot of gluten-free options for her to choose from. She mentioned that she’s gotten very good at picking around gluten. This Sweet & Spicy Mango Avocado Salsa is the perfect example of a gluten-free dish that everyone will enjoy. In fact, most people won’t even realize they’re eating something gluten-free! We like it a bit spicy, but if you prefer something more mild, feel free to cut back or omit the jalapeno. This salsa is a delicious way to welcome summer!
- 1 large mango, peeled and diced
- 1 medium avocado, diced
- 1/3 cup diced red onion
- 1 small jalapeno, seeded and diced
- 1/2 cup diced red pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 2-3 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Toss gently until well combined.
- Cover and refrigerate until serving.
