Root Beer Vanilla Barbecue Sauce

Root beer and vanilla are the star flavors in this sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. This stuff is so good, you may never use bottled BBQ sauce again.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups root beer see notes
  • 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together all the ingredients, except the vanilla, until smooth.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes, or until sauce reduces to desired thickness.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Cool completely and store in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

A high quality bottled root beer will give you the strongest root beer flavor.
