Mini chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candy add some holiday flavor and flare to classic vanilla ice cream.
I realize that ice cream isn’t the first dessert that comes to mind during the month of December, but this Homemade Peppermint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream is perfect for Christmas, and all winter long!
Peppermint is a classic holiday flavor, and it’s made even better with the addition of chocolate. Basically it’s a match made in heaven. And it become even more heavenly when you add both flavors to creamy homemade vanilla ice cream.
So don’t hesitate to break our your ice cream maker when it’s cold outside. You’ll definitely be missing out if you leave it packed away during the winter months.
Speaking of ice cream makers, I have a Cuisinart 1.5 quart ice cream maker, and it’s never let me down. I keep the bowl in the freezer so it’s ready to make ice cream any time the craving strikes.
All you need to make this frosty peppermint treat is a good recipe for homemade vanilla ice cream (I’ve included mine below), some crushed peppermint candy, and some finely chopped chocolate or mini chocolate chips.
If you’re using chocolate chips, I definitely recommend the mini variety. They’re much easier than full size chocolate chips to chew on when they’re frozen.
For an extra special treat, bake up a batch of your favorite brownies, then top each brownie off with a big scoop of this ice cream and a generous drizzle of chocolate sauce. Yum!
Personally, I’m all for eating ice cream year-round, and this peppermint chocolate chip version is perfect for enjoying during the holiday season and beyond!
