HOMEMADE RANCH DRESSING — It’s so easy to make your own Ranch dressing at home, and it’s so much better than the bottled stuff. Beware, this recipe may turn you into a Ranch dressing snob.
I have been meaning to post this recipe for Homemade Ranch Dressing forever.
I make it all the time….let’s just say we have at least one child who dips everything in ranch dressing. And the homemade version is so easy, and so much better than the bottled stuff.
And of course, this is the perfect dressing for almost any kind of salad. Well, maybe not fruit salad, but you get the idea.
This isn’t the sort of recipe where you have to be super exact with measurements. If you want to use green onions in place of chives, go right ahead. If you like a little more garlic, or a little less dill, no problem.
Fat free mayo and sour cream work just as well as the full-fat versions, and Greek yogurt can be substituted for sour cream.
Honestly, I usually just throw in whatever fresh herbs I have available. Although dill is kind of a must for Ranch dressing, as far as I’m concerned.
Feel free to adjust the ingredients to suit your tastes. Add more or less buttermilk for a thicker or thinner consistency. Even regular milk will do the trick.
It’s also super easy to make a buttermilk substitute–just add a tablespoon or so of white vinegar to your measuring cup before you measure the milk, then let it stand for about 5 minutes.
I keep my Homemade Ranch Dressing in a covered mason jar in the refrigerator, where it will keep well for about a week–if it lasts that long.

every bottle of ranch has MSG or soy both of which I have to avoid like they were the plague (actually the plague would be better than those 2 items) im so excited tontry this recipe tomorrow, as ranch is my favorite dressing and I’ve missed it so much!

I have made this a couple times and it is delicious! The first time I made it, I put a little too much dill, but the second time was perfect! This time, I am going to put it in a grilled potato salad with bacon and scallions.

While I’m not a fan of ranch I’ve been thinking I should try making my own. It may be another one of those foods I just “thought” I didn’t like.

I really don’t like the stuff in a bottle Ingrid. The stuff you mix up yourself from the packet is a bit better. But homemade is by far the best. Really not even the same thing as what’s in the bottle. So who knows….you might like it!
