My family is so excited that Inside Out was finally released on Blu-Ray and DVD this week! We saw it in theaters twice, which is something we rarely do, and we’ve been looking forward to having an Inside Out movie night at home ever since. Of course, a movie night requires fabulous snacks, and for our Inside Out movie night we enjoyed this White Chocolate Marshmallow Memory Orb Munch.

If you haven’t seen Inside Out and you’re thinking it’s a movie just for little kids, think again! My boys (ages 11, 15 and 18) said it’s one of the best movies they’ve seen in a long time. My 18 year-old was still talking about how smart the humor was days after we saw the movie. And my 11 year-old could certainly relate to being the same age as the movie’s main character, Riley. I moved quite a bit as a kid, so I totally understood all the emotions that go with along with that–especially in those pre-teen years.  There was even a character from Canada, which my Canadian husband loved! It’s definitely a movie the whole family can enjoy!

Like I said, movie night snacks are a must (especially in a house full of boys), and it’s always more fun if your movie snacks fit the theme of the movie. This sweet, colorful popcorn is so easy, and requires just a few simple ingredients. First, you’ll need some plain or lightly buttered popcorn. Microwave popcorn works great. I picked up some Market Pantry brand microwave popcorn while I was at Target, along with a few of the ingredients I didn’t have at home.

You’ll also need some colorful round chocolate candies, preferably in yellow, blue, green, red and purple to represent the Inside Out characters (Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear). If you’ve seen the movie, the chocolate will remind you of memory orbs. Each orb represents the memory of a particular event, and they come in all the colors of the emotions in the movie.

To make the white chocolate marshmallow coating for your Memory Orb Movie Munch, you’ll heat up corn syrup, butter, white chocolate chips and marshmallows on the stove top, then stir the mixture into your popcorn. Be sure to put your popcorn in a big bowl so you’ll have plenty of room for mixing.

Finally, you’ll stir in your Inside Out “memory orb” chocolate pieces and you’ve got an awesome Inside Out themed movie treat! And let me tell you, this stuff is pretty amazing. It’s sweet and a little bit salty, and I really love the gooey marshmallow coating. Thankfully I’ve got teenage boys to help me eat it, or I’d be in big trouble!

Ingredients

  • 10 cups popped popcorn
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1 12 oz. bag white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 bag large marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups colored chocolate coated candy pieces

Instructions

  • Place popcorn in a large bowl or roasting pan. Lightly grease a large baking sheet. Set aside.
  • Combine the butter, corn syrup and white chocolate chips in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add the marshmallows and continue stirring until everything is melted and smooth.
  • Pour the white chocolate/marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and stir until evenly coated. Let stand 1-2 minutes, until coating is slightly cooled but still soft (you should still be able to stir it). Gently fold in the chocolate pieces.
  • Spread popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet and cool until set. The popcorn should be chewy and soft when set, but not sticky.

There were a few other treats I couldn’t resist putting out for our movie night. I figured we might as well stick with the emotions theme and have some coordinating colored drinks, so I picked up some sodas and sports drinks to match our Memory Orb Munch.

And we had to have some of Bing Bong’s Tears! Yes, there’s a character named Bing Bong and he cries big candy tears. Trust me, you just need to see the movie!

I picked up my copy of Inside Out at Target, along with most of what I needed for our white chocolate popcorn and movie night festivities. When you buy Inside Out at Target, you get 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes! Are my kids the only ones who love the bonus content?

If you haven’t seen Inside Out, I highly recommend it. It’s one of those movies we’ve been planning to purchase ever since we saw it in theaters, and I know we’ll watch it again and again. If you have seen it, I’d love to know who your favorite character was? I really loved Sadness and Anger. I promise, that’s not a reflection of my personality! I just thought the depictions of those emotions were fantastic.

And be sure to follow Target on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest news and deals.

Am definitely going to make these, but the little candies are a mystery to me!! Where do you get something like that, what are they called?? I guess I don’t get around the baking section so much, but I don’t know where to find them. Please help!!!
