Made with a buttery Parmesan cheese and truffle oil filling, these rolls are fancy enough for holidays and special occasions, but easy enough for a weekend meal.

Parmesan Truffle Butter Dinner Rolls

I recently purchases a bottle of fancy white truffle oil, knowing I’d want to use it to make something extra special, like these Parmesan Truffle Butter Dinner Rolls.

And while these beautiful rolls are definitely special, they really don’t require any more time than most homemade dinner roll recipes. But boy are they ever amazing!

If you’ve ever tried truffle oil–maybe on truffle fries–you know that it lends a rich, wonderful flavor to breads, vegetables and even popcorn.

But mixed with softened butter and Parmesan cheese to create a filling for these crescent rolls, this may just be my favorite use for truffle oil yet.

Don’t even worry about serving butter with these rolls–it’s baked right in!

In case you’re wondering exactly what a truffle is (not the chocolate kind, which are also wonderful), they are a type of mushroom that’s found underground, usually around the roots of trees.

Which of course makes them somewhat rare and difficult to harvest. But truffle oil will keep for about 8 months in the refrigerator once opened, so it’s worth keeping a small bottle around for special recipes like this one.

As wonderful as truffle oil is, these rolls are pretty amazing without it too. So if you don’t have truffle oil handy, just make Parmesan butter dinner rolls. They will still taste divine.

Finished off with some melted butter, sea salt and fresh parsley, these rolls are easy to make and look elegant on the table. Perfect for holidays and special occasions.

I know I’m looking forward to serving these Parmesan Truffle Butter Dinner Rolls this holiday season. They may just become a holiday tradition.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon white truffle oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

For the filling

  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 teaspoons truffle oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the topping

  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • Coarse salt
  • Chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the milk, yeast and sugar. Let stand 5 minutes, or until foamy.
  • In a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, combine the flour, butter, honey, truffle oil, salt and egg and mix on low speed. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix on medium speed until combined and slightly tacky.
  • Place the dough in lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and divide into 2 equal halves. Roll each half into a rectangle, about 12×7 inches.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the filling ingredients. Spread the filling evenly over each rectangle and then cut each rectangle into 6 strips, about 1 1/2 inches wide.
  • Starting with the short end, roll each dough strip into a tight coil and place seam side down on the prepared baking sheet. Let rise, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Transfer rolls to oven and bake for 17-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with coarse salt and chopped parsley before serving.
