Tips for making this recipe

  • If you make this recipe ahead of time, I recommend assembling it just before serving.
  • For a fun twist, portion the cheesecake filling and cherries into individual dessert dishes or Mason jars.

You can serve this cheesecake dip as soon as you’re done making it, or make it ahead of time and refrigerate it until you’re ready to devour it.

Just make sure you have plenty of your favorite cookies for serving. We love vanilla wafers, shortbread and graham crackers. But chunks of angel food or pound cake are great too.

This is a great treat to bring along to summer holidays and events because you don’t have to turn on your oven and heat up your kitchen to make it.

In fact, I keep the ingredients for this dessert on hand at all times, so I always have something to whip up for last minute invites or unexpected guests.

FAQS

Can I use canned cherry pie filling in this recipe?ย

Yes. You’ll need a 21 ounce can of pie filling, but the homemade version only takes about 10 minutes, and tastes so much better.

Can I use frozen whipped topping (Cool Whip) instead of whipping my own cream?

Yes. An 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip will work in place of whipping your own cream.

Can I make this dessert ahead of time?

Yes, but I recommend keeping the cheesecake filling and cherry topping separate until serving.

What is the best way to whip cream?

Make sure you are using cold heavy cream, or whipping cream. A cold metal bowl also helps speed up the process. I like to whip cream with an electric mixer (hand or stand mixer) fitted with a whisk attachment. For extra stable whipped cream, add a teaspoon or so of corn syrup to the cream during whipping.
