Light, soft drop biscuits are brushed with honey butter, baked to golden brown, then coated in more honey butter for a delicious, sweet bread that will have everyone asking for seconds!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
My oldest son recently returned from a two year church service mission to the South (Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi), and one of the things he asked me to recreate when he came home were these Church’s Chicken Honey Butter Biscuits.
Oh my goodness! I’m so glad he requested that I give these biscuits a try. We don’t have a Church’s Chicken anywhere close in Colorado, and I have to say, we’ve been missing out. At least when it comes to honey butter biscuits.
I mean, biscuits are pretty great to begin with, and when you slather them in honey butter…..well, it just doesn’t get much better than that.
And since this is a drop biscuit recipe, there’s no need to deal with rolling the dough. You just shape it into balls, brush everything with honey butter, and bake until golden brown.
My son said that Church’s biscuits are actually a little more golden brown than mine were. But the taste was spot on! I’ll have to take his word for that, since I’ve never had an authentic Church’s Honey Butter Biscuit myself.
But even if the taste wasn’t spot on, these biscuits were out-of-this world amazing! I’m pretty sure it’s the honey butter, which I may just be slathering on all forms of bread from here on out.
Obviously, these biscuits are a perfect side for things like fried chicken. But I would not turn one down with any meal. In fact, they’d make a pretty great breakfast on their own. And I’d happily eat them for dessert too.
Seriously people, you need to make these biscuits as soon as possible. And then make them again. And again. You can thank me later!

You could Google and see what you can use for the cream of tartar

what does the tartar do? I don’t have any and don’t like buying things I will never use again.

I looked up this recipe because I had church’s honey butter biscuits the other day. IMO, biscuits should be made with baking soda, not powder, so I changed that right away, and the honey butter was a little sweet and made the biscuits burn, so I recommend just melted butter on before baking, and a honey butter made with 4 tbsp butter and a scant 1/4 cup honey to match the butteryness of church’s, put on after baking.

Was it good with the changes you made? Was it still similar to church’s?

I tried this recipe a few months ago because I was craving Churches biscuits and this was so similar with a homemade touch. It definitely hit the spot. It was so delicious and so simple to make. I meant to leave a review earlier but I forgot but this is my go to for biscuits from now on. I really loved it.

Can I heat at 350ยฐ as my oven does not go to 450ยฐ?
Danelle
Unfortunately it will probably not work with that much of a temperature difference. But you could always try. You’d definitely need to increase the cooking time.

Hello Danelle
I made these today. They were just like Church’s. I baked them 2 minutes longer for more colour. It’s just a matter of finding the right honey. They were delicious. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Have a great day ahead!

Iโm so in love with the recipe! The last time I ate these yummy biscuits was 7 years ago. I used this recipe today to make them and it turned out AMAZING, they taste exactly like Churchโs Chicken Copycat! The only thing that I couldnโt find the cream of tartar so I substituted for each 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or white vinegar. Thank you so much for this recipe!

Mine came out a little on the heavy side. I don’t know if it was me or the recipe. I’ve never been too good at biscuit making. I’ll try again as I know my family would love these. I used butter flavored Crisco instead of butter as I have a milk allergy. I substituted margarine for the butter in the topping.

I would imagine a yeasted biscuit would be more convenient if you have a milk allergy because the butter is part of the leavening.

I can’t wait to try these! Church’s is best in the south. It just has more soul. I have lived in Colorado my whole life and the Church’s near city park is older than I am and I’m 30. There are 6 in Colorado. If you ever decide to try it there are two in Denver.
