This savory spice blend is perfect for all of your Greek-inspired dishes. It’s also great to season chicken, fish, potatoes and other veggies. You’ll always want to have this seasoning on hand!

Homemade Greek Seasoning

I realized recently how often I cook dishes that call for Greek herbs and spices, and since store-bought Greek seasoning isn’t something I usually have on-hand, I decided to create my own Homemade Greek Seasoning.

I’ve actually found Greek seasoning blends hard to find at my local grocery store, although I have had better luck finding it online, or at places like World Market.

And I’ve realized lately that it would be much quicker and more convenient if I just came up with a Greek seasoning blend using spices I already had in my pantry.

It really was so easy, and now I have this wonderful seasoning on hand whenever I’m making Greek inspired dishes.

It takes about 5 minutes to whip up a batch of this spice mix. And it will keep in an airtight container for up to a year. Now I don’t have to make a special trip to the store, or wait for a delivery!

Homemade Greek Seasoning

Of course, with any homemade spice mix, a recipe is really a list of suggestions. If you do an internet search for “Greek seasoning” you’ll find a hundred different versions to choose from.

So feel free to add a little more or less of any ingredient, to suit your tastes. Sometimes, if I want to spice things up a bit, I even add some red pepper flakes.

I do consider the dill, cinnamon, nutmeg and marjoram must have spices in this mix though, as they really set this seasoning blend apart from others.

And don’t just limit this seasoning to Greek dishes, because it really is wonderful on most meats and vegetables–my favorite ways to use it are on fish and roasted potatoes.

If you’ve made healthier eating resolutions this year, remember that Greek food is part of a healthy Mediterranean diet, so this Homemade Greek Seasoning is the perfect spice blend to keep on hand all year long.

This seasoning sounds delicious! How much would you suggest I add to a pound of ground lamb?
