Slow Cooker Chicken Gyros

June 27, 2013 by Danelle 12 Comments

These Slow Cooker Chicken Gyros are one of our family’s favorite Greek style meals.  The chicken comes out so tender and juicy in the slow cooker.  And honestly, it couldn’t be any easier!

We order similar gyros so often at our favorite Greek restaurant, I figured it was time to start making them at home! Because I have some picky eaters, I like to serve the chicken and toppings separately so everyone can build their own gyro to suit their tastes.  So feel free to add or omit toppings to your liking. If you like things spicy, try adding hot sauce and jalapenos to your gyro! Feta cheese is also a fabulous addition. But whatever you do, don’t skip the tzatziki sauce.

I love Greek food! We eat Gyros quite often but I can’t say I’ve ever made it with chicken. This sounds great, I will have to make note of it!

I was thinking about gyros the other night and was bummed because we don’t have any Greek restaurants near by! Now I don’t have to look for a place anymore I can just make em myself!

Mmmmm…absolutely delicious! We just had some friends over the other night for our gyro twist on the ol’ taco bar. I make a grilled chicken that is marinated in a yogurt lime sauce and beef marinated in indian spices and serve it up with flat breads, tzasiki, etc… Your chicken sounds wonderful. I’m going to have to give it a try next time! So glad I hopped on by from Tuesday Night Supper Club and became your newest follower! Best, Jenn/Rook No. 17

I was wondering how this would be if i froze it after cooking in slow cooker. Would you add everything and then freeze once done or would you wait to add the yogurt until you defrost it and are re heating it?

I think I would wait to add the yogurt Mary. Otherwise I think it would freeze just fine.
