The sweet and spicy sauce for these meatballs starts with a bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce. Whisk that together with some raspberry jam, Worcestershire sauce and chipotles in adobo and you’re in business!
Chipotles in adobo are a canned pepper, usually found in the Mexican food section of the grocery store. They are super spicy, so start out with less–you can always add more.
I never use a whole can at once, but extras can be placed in small zip-tops bags and frozen. I usually put two peppers per bag, since I never use more than that in a recipe.
If the combination of ingredients seems strange to you, trust me, it all comes together in the perfect blend of flavors. And yes, you can use homemade meatballs in this recipe. Just before you cook them before adding them to the slow cooker.

Here’s what you’ll need to make Sweet Chipotle Barbecue Meatballs
- Frozen meatballs
- Barbecue sauce
- Raspberry Jam
- Canned chipotles in adobo
- Worcestershire sauce
- 3-4 dozen frozen, cocktail-size meatballs
- 1 (18 oz.) bottle barbecue sauce
- 1 (12 oz.) jar seedless raspberry jam
- 1-2 chipotles in adobo sauce, minced
- 1-2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Place meatballs in a lightly greased slow cooker.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, jam, chipotles in adobo and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over meatballs.
- Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until meatballs are warmed through.
