What You’ll Need to Know
It’s a simple dessert, but a few little touches make it even better.
- Instant pudding: The base of the filling—just whisk and chill, no cooking required.
- Heavy cream + milk: These make the pudding extra fluffy and rich.
- Cocoa powder: Adds depth and boosts the chocolate flavor.
- Vanilla: Rounds out the flavor in both the filling and the whipped topping.
- Graham cracker crust: A little crunch and a hint of salt to balance the sweetness. Store-bought or homemade both work!
- Toppings: Optional, but fresh berries or chocolate shavings make it feel fancy.
Shortcut tip: Make the whipped cream in the same bowl you mixed the filling—less cleanup, and it ends up with a hint of chocolate!
Recipe Tips
- Use cold cream for best whipping results—it forms peaks faster and holds better.
- Chill the pie for at least 2 hours before serving to help everything set up.
- Customize the crust: Try a chocolate cookie crust or traditional pastry if you want to mix it up.
- For neat slices, use a sharp knife and wipe it clean between cuts.
Fun Variations to Try
Switch things up with these easy twists:
- Add a layer of sliced bananas before spooning in the filling for a chocolate-banana vibe
- Fold in mini chocolate chips for extra texture
- Use dark chocolate pudding or a mix of chocolate and vanilla for a swirl effect
- Add a splash of espresso powder for a mocha twist
