Classic Cajun jambalaya with chicken and sausage, conveniently made in your rice cooker.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
My rice cooker is probably the most used small appliance in my kitchen. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without it.
And now that I’ve tried the Hamilton Beach 4-20 Cup Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker, I even use my rice cooker to make delicious dishes like this Rice Cooker Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya.
As the name suggests, this rice cooker is for so much more than just cooking rice! You can also use it for oatmeal, grits, and cream of wheat, as well as grains like farro and quinoa.
Plus, it steams vegetables and fish, and can be used for flavored rice mixes, beans, soups and one pot meals.
The Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker has some great features that I really love.
First of all, there are different, easy-to-select buttons for whatever you might be cooking. My old rice cooker just had a “cook” button, so I was always nervous about using it for anything but rice.
I also love the timer that shows how much cooking time is left. That’s especially handy when my kids ask when dinner will be ready!
Not to mention, the steamer basket doubles as a colander for rinsing your rice, and if you want to wake up to hot oatmeal in the morning, just use the delay start function and you’ll have a hot and hearty breakfast waiting for you!
But I especially love using my rice cooker for easy one pot meals!
There’s a Cajun restaurant in town that my whole family loves, and I always order their jambalaya.
It’s moist and flavorful, without being soupy, and I wanted to recreate it in my rice cooker.
I have to say, it turned out perfectly! And it couldn’t have been easier.
I just browned some peppers, onions and garlic with andouille sausage, then added it all to the rice cooker with some white rice, chicken broth, cooked shredded chicken and Cajun seasonings.
Forty-five minutes later, dinner was served!
My whole family loved this dish, and kept commenting on how good it was between bites. And I happily ate the leftovers for lunch the next day.
Just be sure to scrape every last bit from your skillet into the rice cooker for the best flavor! And feel free to make it a little spicier by adding some cayenne pepper.

Loved this recipe! I had some leftover chicken and sausage and thought it would make a great jambalaya, and I hoped I could make it in the rice cooker. This recipe was easy and tasty, and everyone loved it…no leftovers!

The 4th of July isn’t a special day in the Netherlands, but we have Queensday to celecrate the birthday of our queen. This year our queen abdicated and now her son is king. So next year no Queensday but Kingsday I’ll save your recipe/tutorial so I can make this next year for Kingsday and/or the 5th of May (celebrating the end of WO II) The colours of the Dutch flag are red, white end blue so it would be perfect!

Cheese has always been a part of my food plan. Versatile, low cost, this protein source lends itself to endless dishes, hot or cold. I would love to win the Cabot cheeses.

That looks great โ I had a spicy dish last night. It has to be done, even during the summer months! Most of all it helps clear the airwaves and definitely makes me feel fresher and happier :D,,

Thanks for explaining a few exact matters to have in a kitchen. I’m happy you mentioned which you ought to have a thermometer on your kitchen. I can really recognize the significance of getting this, mainly if you will be cooking meat plenty.
